Iritis

Iritis is caused by inflammation of the iris occasionally along with the ciliary body, located behind the iris. In Iritis, small white blood cells and excess protein leak from small blood vessels inside the eye. These float into the fluid between the cornea and the iris.

Acute and Chronic are the two major types of Iritis. With treatment Acute Iritis improves quickly, healing independently within a few weeks.

With Chronic Iritis recovery can take months or even years and it does not respond as well to treatment. Redness, Light Sensitivity, Throbbing pains, Red Eye and the pupil becoming smaller may all be symptoms of Iritis.

Initial treatment is normally by steroid and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory eyedrops. In persistent cases steroids may be injected around the eye or oral steroids, antibiotics, antifungals, or antivirals may be perscribed Natural treatments such as Fish Oil, Serraflazyme, MSM eyedrops, and vitamins and minerals may help to preserve vision and clear up Iritis.
