Cold Sore Remedies

When looking for Cold Sore Remedies firstly we need to understand the cause.

Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus, a common and infectious virus which is usually contacted during childhood and hides in the nerve ganglia near where your cold sore usually appears.

Your natural body defences keep the cold sore virus in check until your defences drop because you may feel tired, upset or stressed; your resistance is lowered, you have a fever, overexposure to the sun or wind, or maybe you are menstruating.

There are some natural remedies for cold sores that are free and easy to use. Chill out. Stress can trigger an attack. Try to relax and take life a little easier. Review your diet and try to eat healthily. Vegetables and fruit are good for you! Also try to make sure you get enough exercise and sleep, as a run down metabolism makes it easier for cold sores to strike.

At the first sign of an attack (usually a 'tingling'), apply ice for at least a quarter of an hour. If you are sufferer, change your toothbrush frequently. This is not one of the cold sore remedies but may prove effective in lessening the chances of more severe infections.
